Our GEM of the Month for August is Liz Tompkins. Liz took on the dauntless task of organizing the entire upstairs move before the construction began. This included packing, labeling, finding muscles to move heavy furniture, finding places to put stuff as the upstairs was emptied and doing it all as the work of the church continued. This became a monstrous job that no one would have wanted. Liz was relentless in her efforts to get everything done before the actual construction project began. We owe Liz a huge hug of appreciation for all the work she did and the hours she spent down at the church. Thank you Liz for being our “Perilous Peridot”.
GEMS is a loving caring ministry by older adults to older adults meeting areas of spiritual growth, learning, outreach and fellowship opportunities.
We get together frequently throughout the year for a variety of events, some of which include potlucks, book discussion group, picnics, afternoon at the movies, bus trips to points of interest, dinner theater, special afternoon senior worship services, shopping trips, game days, breakfast out, as well as many other activities too numerous to list.
Any older adult (retirement age and beyond) is welcome to participate in GEMS events.
The Older Adult Commission has a meeting once a month to plan activities. Everyone is encouraged to attend these meetings with ideas and suggestions for activities.
