My family’s love for Pioneer Church began in 1981 when I became Pioneer’s associate pastor. Since then, it has remained for us a special group that focuses on faith in Christ and values shared ministry. When we moved away after three years to begin a new ministry in Federal Way, the attachment remained. Then, after fourteen years in Kennewick and one year in Issaquah, I had the opportunity to help lead Pioneer Church again. It has been an enormous blessing to renew old acquaintances and share in new ministry. It has been like coming home to a big shade tree with deep roots and wide-reaching branches. The stability and outreach of the congregation provides both security and challenge.
Many others are finding Pioneer to be their church home as well. Even though the congregation has existed for nearly 150 years, it still has a fresh feel to it. Folks enthusiastically support children and youth ministry, while at the same time maintaining a growing ministry with senior citizens. Over thirty-five small groups provide individual support for their members, and adult education continues to thrive. Congregants include folks who are seeking a church home for the first time as well as those who have grown in faith for decades.
Pioneer Church is committed to reaching a wide variety of people. Everyone is welcome, regardless of economic status, race, family situation, age, sexual orientation, or background. The only requirement is a desire to seek God. By opening the scriptures to our everyday lives, diverse individuals find oneness in Christ Jesus. Different temperaments and styles of faith blend into the fabric of God’s all-encompassing love.
The psalmist wrote: “Taste and see that the Lord is good.” Come taste and see the goodness of the Lord at Pioneer Church.
