Frequently Asked Questions
What is a United Methodist?
United Methodists are those who follow the teachings and organizational structure of John
Wesley. When Wesley was asked the question, "What is a Methodist?", he replied, "I
answer: a Methodist is one who has 'the love of God shed abroad in his heart by the Holy
Ghost given unto him'; one who 'loves the Lord his God with all his heart, and with all his
soul, and with all his mind, and with all his strength.'" The Methodist Church is much like
any other denomination but has strong leanings towards personal perfection and social
action. United Methodists follow the motto of the United Methodist Church: “Open Hearts,
Open Minds, Open Doors”. If you would like to learn more about the United Methodist
Church at large please check out the official website at umc.org.
